Fabric Description
- Cotton prints and white solid background
- Prints are varied in color – blues, greens, yellows red.
General Organization
- One-patch design.
Grid of hexagons constructed from 1.5″ hexagons. The assembled block is about 10.5″ flat edge to flat edge. This includes the center patch, two rings of prints and one white background ring. - The setting of these blocks includes a strip or bar pieced from three hexagons. This was used as a spacer so that the 10.5″ pieced hexagons did not next as in a traditional Grandmother’s Flower Garden Pattern.
There are 8 rows of 9 hexagons with 9 bars with an additional row of 5 hexagons with 5 bars. A total of 77 full hexagons.
The sides of the quilt are left scalloped, but the top and bottom are finished with a smooth edge by using half hexagon blocks.
- Block Name: This quilt is a variation on the Grandmother’s Flower Garden (BB ID 160K).
- Many of the fabric hexagons were fussy cut. This is particularly true for the center hexagons of the block.
